TO PURCHASE NEW
SPECIMEN CABINETS & DRAWERS
November 1, 2025 — February 28, 2026
The Oregon State Arthropod Collection has recently modernized our facility as part of a multi-million-dollar renovation of Cordley Hall. We are deeply grateful to the university and broader community for supporting us through this metamorphosis, and we look forward to a bright future in our new space. During the planning phase, architects challenged us to envision a facility that would support our mission for the next 50 years—and we did.
With support from a National Science Foundation grant and funding associated with the building remodel, the OSAC installed a state-of-the-art compactor system with the capacity not only to house our existing collection—more than 8,000 drawers stored in 119 steel cabinets—but also to provide room for future growth in the form of designated spaces for additional cabinets. Today, we are taking the first steps to raise funds to purchase new cabinets and drawers to fill some of those spaces and to accommodate newly arriving material.
Our fundraising drive runs from November 1, 2025, through February 28, 2026, and all gifts to the Friends of the Oregon State Arthropod Collection charitable account will go toward our goal of $80,000. These funds will allow us to purchase new cabinets and drawers, which will be ordered in Spring 2026 upon completion of the campaign.

NEWS!!! We are excited to share some excellent news. This week, we received an additional challenge gift of up to $10,000 to support the campaign. Thus, combined with the existing 1:1 match, any gifts received between now and December 31 will effectively be tripled!!!
How you can help, and what will $80,000 do?
The goals of this campaign are relatively straight forward: to purchase new cabinets and drawers for new specimens. Here is a guide as to how your charitable gift can translate to actual specimen housing:
A gift of $12,000: purchases and installs one new Delta Design cabinet filled with
62 new glass-topped insect drawers, each of which is full of unit trays
A gift of $5,000: purchases and installs a new 62-slot Delta Design insect cabinet
A gift of $3750: purchases 50 new empty insect drawers
A gift of $1000: purchases 8 new drawers full of new unit trays
A gift of $500: purchases either new 4 drawers full of unit trays or 6 new empty insect drawers
A gift of $125: purchases one new drawer full of unit trays.

Thank you!
We are truly excited about the future of the OSAC. Our facility now has a brand-new look and feel, yet it remains the same collection that you—and many others—have helped build over many decades. We are entering a remarkable moment in which the need for, and interest in, biodiversity research—especially insect biodiversity—is higher than ever.
With our new facility and the first real capacity for growth in decades, we are finally able to begin adding new specimens to our holdings, ensuring that future entomologists will have a clear and accurate record of today’s insect fauna. With your support, we will take these important steps forward together.
